Public Can Trade a New or Gently Used Musical Instrument For Free Tickets to Manilow’s December 7th Concert
[Bakersfield, CA—October 8, 2012] – Legendary singer-songwriter Barry Manilow hopes others will once again follow his philanthropic lead as he donates a Yamaha piano to launch a local instrument drive for the Bakersfield Public Schools. Anyone who donates a new or gently used musical instrument to the Rabobank Arena Box Office will receive 2 free tickets (valid for pre selected seat locations) for Manilow’s December 7th concert in Bakersfield, CA.
“I’m thrilled to be able to help bring the gift of music to these kids,” states Manilow.
Rabobank Arena will be the base for the instrument drive in Bakersfield, from now through December 7th.
“The Bakersfield City School District appreciates the community’s support of its instrumental music program,” said Michael D. Stone, Coordinator, Visual and Performing Arts Department, Bakersfield City School District President-Elect, California Music Educators Association. “Student participation has grown in recent years, and musical instrument donations are always appreciated. We believe that music is an integral part of every child’s education. Students who are involved with music learn citizenship, teamwork, and organizational skills. Brain research demonstrates that students who play musical instruments score higher on college entrance exams. Above all, music is intrinsically worthwhile. It gives boys and girls a unique way to express themselves!”
The Manilow Music Project (MMP) is part of The Manilow Fund for Health and Hope. It was formed as a grass roots organization to assist local charities and programs. Its primary focus is to provide musical instruments to high schools and middle schools and to provide music scholarships at universities throughout the US, Canada, and the UK.
